Essential Components of Paragraph Writing

It has been explained in chapter I, especially at the background section of this thesis, that writing is very complex. The complexity of writing can be seen from some factors: psychological, linguistic, and cognitive factors. From the psychological factor, writing is a solitary act without audience present. From linguistic factor, writing must be constructed more carefully, concisely, and coherently to ensure that the meaning is clear. From cognitive factor, writing is usually learned through formal instructional rather than through natural acquisition process. Besides, Raimes (1987) says that it takes time to learn reading, thinking, talking, writing and rewriting. Moreover, its process requires the writer to open his mind and to be willing to explore feeling and ideas (Schenck, 1988:50). Furthermore, Goldman (1986:xi) states that, writing is a complicated activity that requires intense concentration. Some essential facts which cause writing is complex includes vocabulary and action, selection of sentence structure, unity and coherence.
